Creating Microlearning Courses in Articulate Rise
In this video, we will explore how to create a microlearning course in Articulate Rise and what makes it different from building a standard Rise course.
Rise vs. Microlearning
When you build a course in Rise, you have two options:
• Full courses – better suited for longer programs, such as 30-minute modules with detailed lessons.
• Microlearning – short, focused learning experiences (about 5–10 minutes) often used as refreshers on topics like workplace health and safety, company values, or the code of conduct.
The Look and Feel of Microlearning
Microlearning in Rise is designed for vertical scrolling, with smooth navigation using animated arrows rather than the traditional left-hand menu. I showcase a microlearning example on performance management, a common corporate training topic.
Customisation Features
One of the highlights of Rise is the ability to use custom blocks. These allow you to add text over images, create tip boxes, or alternate layouts for variety. As a designer, I’ve also customised the visuals with background artwork, colour overlays, and scenarios built with the timeline feature. Even if you’re not a designer, the new custom blocks make it easy to add polish and variety without advanced graphic skills.
Building Scenarios and Interactivity
I demonstrate how to set up a scenario using the timeline feature and include interactive elements like accordions. The flexibility of blocks means you can connect or separate content sections to make important topics like underperformance, stand out on their own.
Keeping It Simple
For microlearning, less is more. A clean design, a few interactive elements, and well-structured content are often all that’s needed for an effective learning experience. I also walk through how the course looks across devices, including tablet and mobile views.
Final Thoughts
Microlearning in Rise is a great way to deliver quick, engaging training that works across devices. With custom blocks and simple design tweaks, you can create professional, polished modules without a big budget or design background.
